Welcome to the Dacorum Patients Group

We are a group of local residents working to ensure patients have a truly independent voice in healthcare.

A message from our Chair, Kevin Minier, December 2016

I am committed to increasing the patient (resident) voice of Dacorum on health and care matters. This involves increasing communications with the public and building the role of critical friend/partner with the Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group (HVCCG) and the wider health and social care community of the Sustainability Transformation Area (Hertfordshire and West Essex), the Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and the Dacorum Borough Council (DBC), Hertfordshire HealthWatch (HwH) and the various service providers and third sector/voluntary organisations. I am also committed to supporting the GP Surgeries through the Patient Participation Groups across Dacorum and the wider Patient Practice Group Network.

Investment in Health and Social Care in West Hertfordshire and Dacorum in particular has been insufficient over many years resulting in buildings that are unfit for purpose and services which are inadequate and inefficient. The current acute reconfiguration option proposed by HVCCG Your Care Your Future programme of refurbishment of Watford and St Albans Hospital with new development if possible will not provide sustainable (cost-effective) acute services that meet even current NHS standards. This very limited option is being put forward because the health authorities are not willing to put the investment into West Hertfordshire that is required to sustainably service the health needs of the population of West Hertfordshire.

There are two petitions asking the public about the need for a West Hertfordshire acute reconfiguration. One prepared by Mike Penning MP for Hemel Hempstead and one prepared in cooperation by PPG/DHAG, they are both intended to raise the plight of West Hertfordshire in Parliament to highlight the need for investment in West Hertfordshire health services and obtain the required funding. I encourage everybody to respond to both these petitions and to encourage their contacts to do so as well.

The Dacorum Patients Group (DPG) grew out of the Local Patient & Public Involvement Forums that were disbanded in 2008. Its main aim is to be an independent local group working to make the patient's voice heard.

We are committed to:

Collecting, sampling and quantifying patients' views, wishes and concerns about local NHS delivery in the Dacorum area

Presenting any findings regarding patients' views to the local NHS services

Ensuring that the patients voice is heard on all health matters

Always keeping patient needs at the heart of any discussion

Working with practice Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) as much as possible

Identifying and spreading best patient management practice between GP practices

Identifying and raising any areas of local concern

Ensuring that patient's needs are central to any healthcare decisions

Membership is free and is open to any Dacorum resident or anyone registered with a Dacorum GP. We meet monthly and our members are involved in practice PPGs, local health committees and other health working groups. We also represent patients at Herts Valleys CCG meetings and public forums.

If you care about our local health services and have the time to get involved with DPG please get in touch using our contact form.
We hope that you find this site informative and welcome any suggestions that you might have for how we can further support patients living in Dacorum.
